The building is situated in the bucolic farming town of Usa, Oita prefecture, framed by an imposing chain of mountains. There is an existing building on the grounds of Shakuzenji Temple, a longstanding fixture in the local community. Inspired by the surrounding mountain chain, the building concept features a series of circles centered around the temple, much like a circle of rosary beads. The facility comprises three buildings connected in a line, one is perfectly round and the other two are teardrop-shaped. This represents the diverse range of personalities in young children. The buildings are designed to secure the children in a warm embrace and provide them with a supportive and nurturing environment that stimulates creativity and learning so they can acquire the skills to venture out into the world with confidence. The impressive white buildings with their gentle curves and the surroundings of endless fields generate striking memories of childhood that help to create bonds that link our future selves back to the past as part of the greater family of humanity. Features such as the children's library, featuring a traditional bamboo mesh ceiling in the local style, will create memories that will linger long into adulthood. Joint design with Jakuetsu
